2017 BUDDS CREEK MX | COMPLETE COVERAGE
The penultimate round of the 2017 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship is in the books, and it’s hard to find the right words to sum up a weekend like that. Luckily for us, photo’s are worth at least a thousand words, and we’ve got plenty of photos from the 2017 Budds Creek MX to check out below. From new overall winners to a newly crowned champion, and all sorts of stories that developed off the track, there’s a whole lot to cover.
– Where to even begin? It only seems fitting to start with Zach Osborne wrapping up the 250 class championship. This year has undoubtedly been the best of his career, and he’s had to show plenty of grit to earn both titles. Coming into Budds Creek, there was little question as to whether or not he’d be able to take home the number one plate, but things didn’t exactly go to plan. In the first moto of the day, the tricky 180 degree first turn collected Osborne and others in a pileup. He’d eventually claw his way back to eighth, and rebound with a win in the second moto to clinch the title.
– Speaking of success in the 250 class, Adam Cianciarulo rode to an overall victory with 1-2 scores. It’s been apparent that he’s wanted to stand on the top step of the podium all summer long, and he’s come close many times. When Cianciarulo finally took the checkered flag and the overall win, he was beyond excited. There’s still one National left this summer and Adam has plenty of confidence and momentum to take with him into Indiana.
– Shane McElrath hasn’t had the summer he was hoping for after struggling with lingering injuries from Supercross, but he’s toughed out moto after moto and continued to put in the work to run up front. Things came together for McElrath this weekend at Budds Creek though, as he put together two solid finishes to earn third overall. Unfortunately, his champagne bottle exploded during the podium celebrations, but didn’t let that dampen his spirits after putting in one of his best performances of the outdoor season.
– Things were no less exciting in the 450 class, as Justin Bogle put himself out front early in the first moto of the day and held on for the win. In the second moto, he once again started up near the front of the pack and grabbed the lead. Eli Tomac would eventually catch and pass him, but Bogle’s 1-2 scores would be good enough for the overall win.
– When it comes to the title contenders in the 450 class, there was no shortage of excitement. Baggett, Musquin, and Tomac all had mixed results. At the close of the first moto, it looked as though Musquin would make up a considerable chunk of points on Tomac, but in the second moto, it was the exact opposite. In the end, Musquin only made up one point on Tomac. With one race left, there’s still life in this 450 championship.
