Robert Kuhry, or Coors Light Kuhry as he’s known on Instagram, is one of the most enthusiastic motocross racers in the pits. One of the faster vet-class racers in the TWMX Race Series membership, Kuhry is known for his wild riding style and Coors Light bike and helmet graphics. He once proclaimed himself an, “up-and-coming Vet” to us, so we thought it was time to give him his own spotlight. Enjoy!
My dad says he’s never met anyone who loves motocross more than you, and that you spend almost every dollar on this sport. How did you get into motocross?
Yeah when I was nine years old, my stepdad got me riding out in the desert, and I’ve been hooked ever since. And yes, your dad is right, I love motorcycles so much! Everything revolves around motorcycles in my life. I  have been riding for 40 years right now, and I still love it so much. The worst problem is when I get hurt. I do spend a lot of money cause it’s something that I love to do, and of course, I make real good money too doing the swimming pools, so I’m able to afford to buy the nice stuff.

How seriously do you take your racing? Is it just for fun or do you have bigger aspirations?

I want to take it more serious, I just don’t get to race a whole bunch. If I can race more, like the event coming up, the Trans-Am Vet Classic…I’m really concentrating on that! Hopefully I can win that, it’s a three-day event. I take my racing real seriously, I like to win, but some days I don’t. Today, I got the win in the Vet Open Intermediate class ahead of some fast guys so I am pumped with that!

What are your favorite types of tracks and track obstacles?

My favorite track is Cahuilla Creek because it’s really close to my house, and my favorite obstacle is the 170-foot step-up triple.

At the TWMX Race Series, we try to offer a better racing experience, what do you think of our events?

Oh, it’s awesome! I’ve been racing with Transworld even before. when it was still Vet X and I’ve been racing it since 2009 every chance I get, so I’ve been racing a long time. I watched it sell to Transworld and I think it’s just great racing. I have so much fun.

What is your favorite thing about being a motocross racer?

Just how it makes me feel at the end of the day, it makes me feel really good about myself and that I try to do better. I like everything about it.

What would you rather do, holeshot a race and run away or come from behind to win?

Come from behind for sure. It feels better when you have to really work for it.

Tell me about your bike and why you chose it, and what have you done to make it work for you?

My bike is a 2017 Honda CRF450R and it’s gotten everything on it. It’s almost a factory bike besides the white front fender, it’s so good! I did triple clamps, I did pipes, I did wheels, I did motor work…the bike is just phenomenal. I think it’s the best bike I’ve ever ridden in my life and that’s what helps me go faster, I believe.

So tell me about your graphics!

That’s a one-off design graphic kit that I built myself in 2012 with the Yamaha and then we moved it to the Honda. People ask about the graphics all the time, I’m 48 years old and I don’t have real sponsors so I pay for everything myself, so that’s why I started with Coors Lights, and I like Coors Light. It’s something different, I like to be different, I don’t want to be like the next guy. Every day. people direct message me on Instagram and hit me up and say, “Hey can we get your graphic? Can we get your graphics?” and it’s always NO. (Laughs) The graphics are exclusively mine, you cannot get them from Magik, they will not make them for anybody but me!
