Josh Hill To Factory Yamaha

2018 Seattle Supercross | Josh Hill To Factory Yamaha

Surprising news from the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing team ahead of the 2018 Seattle Supercross. With Justin Barcia still getting back into the swing of riding, the team has tapped Josh Hill to race the factory YZ450F at round thirteen of the 2018 Monster Energy Supercross Series. A Pacific Northwest native, the Seattle round will be Hill’s “home race.” As of now, it sounds like Hill will only race Seattle for the team.

Hill stepped away from professional racing after a crash in 2015 and transition into an Athlete Support role at Monster Energy but maintained exceptional skill on a bike through the career change. Hill has increased his riding frequency in recent months through a new deal with Monster Energy, evident in his third place overall finish in 2018 AMA Snow Bike Championship and other events in North America. We spoke with Hill a few weeks back and he told us that he was working on a plan to race Seattle as a privateer with support from Monster Energy and Pro Circuit, but this factory fill-in ride is a much more lucrative offer.

We welcome back @monsterenergy athlete, @joshill75 as he fills in for @justinbarcia and goes bLU cRU at Seattle @supercrosslive. “Getting a call from Factory Yamaha to come race Seattle came as a total surprise to me. I was just on my way home from winning the AMA National Snowbike Championship and was planning on racing Seattle on my own bike out of my own truck. Got a call from Keith Mccarty, asking me if I wanted to fill in for Justin Barcia and of course I was honored and shocked that they would think of me. It’s pretty surreal to come up out of retirement and get a call from Factory Yamaha to go racing. It’s even cooler that Factory Yamaha is where I started my career out in 2006 when I was 16 and to be doing it now, 12 years later, coming back to my home race in Seattle, is pretty exciting.” – J.
